the need to gurgle

yes, gurgle not gargle...

* my mom's birthday tomorrow :) we're cooking things and such. i hope the titos and the titas come. that's all she wants.

* three quarters into Breaking Dawn is the wrong thing to read right now

* been thinking a lot about loyalty lately (oh heeey, how's that for alliteration? ;-) ). i realize i'm not the best person to rail against the disloyal, but some people really will disregard things for the sake of convenience. i wonder if anyone has ever DIED of inconvenience. the cancer in this society is more than just its politics. a great factor is laziness--the short cut, the band-aid, anything that will make it easier on you even if it's not right. kamote.

* what do you do when life presents so many shiny new things, but so very few changes?

* planning a surfing trip to good ol' LU next weekend (aug. 23 to 25). join na! i ranted some days ago re: not really liking my brain at the moment, like it doesn't know how to just be settled anymore. my thinking is getting incr...

always just one more

      (warning: drama mode)

the truth is, i'm not particularly very good at it, but this thing that my friends introduced me to makes me feel like nothing else.

i started surfing in 2005, before la union was as popular and crowded a destination as it is now, but still many years after my friends first got into it. i would probably be a third or even fourth generation model if surfers were marketed like ipods.

generally, i'm pretty resilient but many, many, many things have really started beating on my armor. sometimes, i really do feel there's nothing left for me on this planet, except for trying to take care of my internal organs so someone can make use of them when i can't anymore. and in between seriously considering if i have mononucleosis or, well, that thing that will put you in the 7th circle of dante's hell, is the shining thought of paddling out towards the horizon.

everytime i catch a wave, life feels completely peaceful. i don't have a care in the world but for the speed of the ...

please, lang...
Fitzcarraldo and personal myths... Please do watch this, or at least listen. I find this new song of the moment, which pays tribute to a movie about a man with a crazy dream, very poignant. It swells and silences you, especially at 4:11 onwards...

Even the good stars can fall from grace and falter, like the lapdogs that shroud the mystery. And her last words were "I'll see you down in history." It's the long, lonely way that we can go."

"together again..."

back in college, i remember actually singing this to my bed after several long nights slaving over the school paper, my comm. arts thesis, and my advertising thesis (yes, all at the same time). no, there was no one around to notice me being quirky. it was a heartfelt, albeit cheesy, moment strictly between me and my sheets. and i slept the sleep of the just :D

today, i feel i need a moment like that again. just sleep quietly. i haven't been able to sleep well the past few weeks, waking up at odd hours, or transferring from the living room couch to my "zen mattress", or waking up--as in fully awake--at 2am then not being able to go back to sleep... they've done a number on my brain and i can feel it. when i was much younger, such moods only happen when i'm mulling over something presumably deep, or i'm in a poetry writing frenzy. as such, it's a productive sort of trouble. these days, it just makes my mind hazy. i. hate. it.

any advice?

in my silliest fangirl mode
my ex used to call me fangirl. blame these Boston boys who are clearly having just a little too much fun these days :) i really know how to be a good fan (slash stalker? har har), and i daresay the comeback is proof that good, clean fun never goes out of style. yes, they are old, but they were, like, pioneeeers, man! the originals still do it best. the song is smooth and simple pop. aah the days when people wore less emo makeup and had fun dancing more often. don't you love feeling like a kid again? =) a clip from a music awards show. i love that even the young ones are still screaming.

and from Zootopia 2008

a hilarious review from a straight man

from the new york times magazine

one dude said "they stole all my girls in middle school! oh no not again!"

this is so ridiculous, i'm having so much fun! i'm laughing at myself for being so giddy! in your face, teenagers!

your forever Blockhead, zane
it is yet to stop.

today, while the boys were discussing the latest Wimbledon scores and the Williams sisters, N said, "ay, women's finals ng Wimbledon ba yon? i thought i was watching Gorillas in the Mist."

and from a bad commentator that says "I can't really identify among the two gorillas, but Gorilla A, also known as the bigger gorilla, is blah blah blah. Gorilla B, meanwhile, is hanging on."

and then to a classic Nat Geo wildlife docu in night vision with matching whispered voiceover: "at this point, it's very dangerous to approach these animals (athletic grunt). see, those sounds they are making means agression and they are currently feeling very very territorial," "look at Gorilla B stalking her prey very very carefully. let's stay quiet so they don't see us."

ah, basta, i find it funny.
my office 07.02.08

yesterday, we were all busy writing at around 4pm when N opened the window to let some air in, and sat down again to work. N was looking at the window when he exclaimed to the whole room, "Hey, are those niggers?". Of course, it's a politically incorrect joke but we couldn't help but laugh. G suggested that we call them and say, "Hey you, come closer... here's a dime." And then we gave them names. I suggested "Jamal".

So, yeah, yesterday was peppered with bad racist humor and it was one of the funniest afternoons I've had lately. Sorry, tao lang.
